IRCTC Vardan Envirolab — Food Safety Compliance
An enterprise field app for IRCTC food-safety supervisors, where attendance is only valid inside a 500m geofence around the assigned kitchen.
The challenge
Background location on Android is a minefield — aggressive battery optimisation, OEM-specific restrictions and permission changes all conspire to kill tracking exactly when compliance data matters most.
How I approached it
- Built 500m geofenced attendance so supervisors can only clock in physically on site, with server-side verification of the reported position.
- Implemented real-time movement monitoring that raises an alert when a supervisor leaves the geofence during a shift.
- Modelled daily, weekly and monthly checklists as a single schema-driven form engine, so new audit formats are config rather than code.
- Added NC/CAPA (non-conformance and corrective action) forms plus food sample tracking with offline capture, since kitchens often sit in dead zones.
Results
- Live on Google Play for IRCTC field teams
- 500m geofence enforcement with movement alerts
- Offline-first checklist and sample capture
- Schema-driven forms — new checklists ship without a release
