The challenge
Investment apps live and die on trust: NAV data has to be current, portfolio maths has to be exact to the paisa, and onboarding has to survive a KYC flow that is long by nature but still needs to convert.
How I approached it
- Integrated live fund and NAV APIs with caching, so portfolio screens open instantly and reconcile in the background rather than blocking on the network.
- Built interactive performance charts that stay readable on small screens, with gesture-driven scrubbing across time ranges.
- Broke KYC and onboarding into resumable steps so a user who drops off mid-verification returns to where they left rather than restarting.
- Handled payment and mandate flows with careful state machines, because a half-finished SIP mandate is worse than none.
