The highest-reach app I have worked on: 5 lakh+ downloads and a 4.7★ rating across 5,900+ reviews, combining maps, live audio and multilingual content.
The challenge
Three hard problems in one app — a worldwide temple database on a map, audio playback that keeps lyrics in sync while the screen is locked, and content in multiple Indian languages with correct typography.
How I approached it
- Built a nearby-temple finder over a global dataset, with map clustering so dense regions stay usable and distance sorting for the "near me" case.
- Implemented background audio with lock-screen controls and lyric synchronisation, so Thirumurai verses track playback position line by line.
- Ran two always-on radio streams with resilient reconnect handling for patchy mobile networks.
- Added a Hindu festival calendar with local prayer reminders scheduled on-device, so they fire without a server round trip.
